No one in my family has this ET, i dont no how i got it. i find these tremor more when i cut my nails, sometime at public gathering or party my hands shake while holding my drink.

Hi Gabbar! Thank you for your posting. Tremor will often be more noticable after exercise, but tends to calm down after a short period. People with tremor generally become more anxious in social conditions, which in turn will make the tremor worse. Anxiety does enhance this condition. Exercise is very beneficial for the stress/anxiety which is often associated with tremor. Not all people have an hereditary tremor. Generally speaking tremor will grow by age, but this isn't always the case. I wonder if you have been referred to a neurologist at all, who will be able to answer your questions more fully.

Hi Tonia,

On Dec. 18, 2009 I started having violent tremors that turns into a full body tremor if not I don't take Ativan. I have always had a tremor in my hands, tho I didn't know it was until now. They were so violent, my tongue would push on my teeth so hard they started to move and my gums started to bleed. I can't work, drive, nothing.. they have completely taken over my life. It usually starts in my neck and works it's way down. I have an MRI scheduled but not till March 12, 2010. I went to the emergency neurology clinic and he has put me on medication which is helping so much! But still has no answer and unless you have money ... you got to wait months for any testing. As of today I am tremor free for 4 whole days. I just don't know what to think... have you ever heard of this... or seen such violent tremors in a 22 year old??? Or anyone for that matter????
Please every doctor I see just tells me they have not seen anything like this ... rather a tremor present like this.

Cheers,
Rebecca

I have had Essential Tremor since I was 15 years old. People used to laugh at me as I couldn't control a pot of tea to get it to the cup. I now have it in my hands, head and it has effected my speech to the point where people think I am drunk all the time even though I am Tea Total. They don't take me seriously if I have to make important phone calls as I can't speak the numbers on the phone to a bank or even press the keys. I can't hold a cup of tea unless it is in a large cup and it is only half full. I have to eat with a spoon but still the food goes everywhere. I can't even cook a meal as I cannot hold hot items in case I burn myself or drop them. When I talk to people they are looking at my head shaking and not at my face.
This is a very distressing illness as people don't seem to want to be seen with me as I shake such a lot.
I attend a Neurology clinic.
I am 64 years old now and the tremor has got a lot worse over the years.

Frances, I wondered if you had thought about attending one of the support groups at all, as I feel it would really help for you to talk to other people who have tremor. As you say this can be a very distressing condition and some people are often unsure as to what what to say when they see someone shaking. Please feel free to contact us at anytime for support.
